Re: Coleraine Water
At the Special Meeting yesterday, the City Council decided, as a one-time courtesy, to discount all August utility bills $34, the water portion of the bill. We appreciate your patience!
Rest assured, there is no bacteria present. Water going into the lines is clear. The discoloration is iron & manganese that builds up inside the pipes.
Hydrant flushing is being done a different way than in the past; it is 90% more effective in doing what flushing is intended to do. The flushing dislodges the build-up, which is necessary, but it results in some discoloration, which can be unpleasant.
If you have discoloration, please run an OUTSIDE faucet hose or water your lawn until it clears, 4-5 hours at a time.
Watch City of Coleraine Facebook and www.CityofColeraine.com for ongoing information.
Special Notice from the Coleraine Public Utilities team:
As you’re likely aware, we’ve been dealing with and working on discoloration in the water for nearly two weeks. The efforts are ongoing. Rest assured, testing is being done daily, and there is no bacteria in the water. The issue is cosmetic, but for anyone who would feel more comfortable not drinkingi the water, the City of Bovey has offered a drinking water alternative.
At the Bovey RV dump site [near KMDA, 505 2nd Ave, Bovey], there is a spigot of drinking water that Coleraine residents can access free of charge, at this time. Bring your own containers; it is self-serve. Also, please do NOT use the other water source on the property. That is NOT drinking water.

Again, if you have any questions or would like us to add your property address to our list of affected properties, please email

Thank you!
